Paper Vs Glass
On my way to my stay from my college, I witness a incident which disturbed me but not anymore. There is a construction going on near my stay and the workers are migrants from other state. I occasionally meet them in the tea shop. I get tea in a glass cup which is reusable and the tea master offers them their tea in a paper cup. Come on it's 2024 but still it's an issue. Historically the caste struggle has just shifted into class struggle by the so called educated people. In a society struggle is inevitable. I can't be in a utopian state to ask for a society without any struggles. But atleast struggle should not be for the dignity, it can be for improving their standard of living for affording the luxuries. But rather the struggle is here for dignity. I am not sure how would the workers feel about drinking in a paper cup. Should we be proud that there is a discrimination only in the cup but not in the cost of the tea. The concern here is not the paper cup but behind that, they are underpaid for their work. There is a conflict that the migrant workers are occupying the menial jobs of the native. While the business man are just exploiting the necessity of the migrants by paying them lesser. We often fight with the layman thinking he is the problem, while the creator of it is a bigshot. It would be good if the workers together fight for the fair pay. After all paper cup could be easily crushed compared to the glass cup. But sadly the glass cup couldn't stand in the heat of the bigshot because it easily breaks from the heat and tears the paper cup which is already crumbled.
You may wonder why I say that this incident don't disturb me anymore because I got convinced that progress in the society is only because of the struggle that exists. Sadly the struggle is extended to dignity. But I believe the worker would emerge stronger for fighting through all the struggles because he have a strong will to drink in a glass cup.
Atlast, the hot water makes the egg harder.
